Heaven is the Face- Day 181

Back in October, as part of our Christmas present, my parents took us to the Steven Curtis Chapman concert. To say it was amazing is SUCH an understatement. I loved every single second of it. My awesome parents got us tickets to sit in the very front section, so we were in the second pew back! We felt like we were right there on stage with them. Both Steven and Mary Beth were there, along with their two sons. They are just so REAL. It really felt like we were just sitting in their living room chatting with them. They spent quite a bit of time just sharing with us from their hearts. There wasn't very many people there, and that just made it all the more intimate.

Caleb and Will started out the show with their new band. It was fun to hear things from their perspective as Caleb took time to share with us from his heart, as well.

Mary Beth shared with us for awhile as well. She mostly talked about her book and what she has written in it about losing Maria.

Since my parents had paid for the tickets for up front, we got a signed tour poster and a signed copy of his latest CD to go with the night. I have the CD in my car right now, which is where this whole post is going. One of his more popular songs from the CD, "Heaven is the Face", is the song that was playing on my ride home from church this morning and has been going through my head ever since. I realized that I never had truly caught all the words to the song until Steven sang it at his concert. Talk about a tear-jerker after they had just shared about losing Maria! Oh my! So here it is...

Heaven is the Face by Steven Curtis Chapman
Heaven is the face of a little girl
With dark brown eyes
That disappear when she smiles
Heaven is the place
Where she calls my name
Says, “daddy please come play with me for awhile”

God, I know, it’s all of this and so much more
But God, You know that this is what I’m aching for
God, You know I just can’t see beyond the door

So right now
Heaven is the sound of her breathing deep
Lying on my chest, falling fast asleep while I sing
And Heaven is the weight of her in my arms
Being there to keep her safe from harm while she dreams

And God, I know it’s all of this and so much more
But God, You know that this is what I’m longing for
And God, You know I just can’t see beyond the door

But in my mind’s eye
I can see a place
Where Your glory fills every empty space
All the cancer is gone
Every mouth is filled
And there’s no one left in the orphans’ bed
Every lonely heart finds the one true love
And there’s no more goodbye
And no more “not enough”
And there’s no more enemy (no more)

Heaven is a sweet, maple syrup kiss
And a thousand other little things I miss with her gone
Heaven is the place where she takes my hand
And leads me to You
And we both run into Your arms

Oh God, I know, it’s so much more than I can dream
It’s far beyond anything I can conceive
So God, You know I’ll trust in You until I see

Heaven in the face of my little girl

The Best Things Happen While You're Dancing- Day 181

This is probably my favorite scene in the whole movie. Weeeeell, maybe not. I have a lot of favorites. The whole movie is so good! But this definitely ranks up there quite high!

The Best Things Happen While You're Dancing
The best things happen while you're dancing
Things you would not do at home
Come naturally on the floor
For dancing soon becomes romancing
When you hold a girl in your arms
That you've never held before
Even guys with two left feet
Come out alright if the girl is sweet
If by chance their cheeks should meet while dancing
Proving that the best things happen while you dance

Blue Skies- Day 180

Something I am noticing about the lyrics to the songs from White Christmas is that the lyrics are really short! I am surprised each time I look up the lyrics to see how short it is! The songs are so long, yet I had never really paid attention to the fact that they just repeat a lot. Hmmm, maybe they are onto something with not needing to have elaborate lyrics to make a song beautiful.

Blue Skies by Irving Berlin
I was blue, just as blue as I could be
Ev'ry day was a cloudy day for me
Then good luck came a-knocking at my door
Skies were gray but they're not gray anymore

[Refrain:]
Blue skies smiling at me
Nothing but blue skies do I see

Bluebirds singing a song
Nothing but bluebirds all day long

Never saw the sun shining so bright
Never saw things going so right
Noticing the days hurrying by
When you're in love, my how they fly

Blue days, all of them gone
Nothing but blue skies from now on

[2nd verse:]
I should care if the wind blows east or west
I should fret if the worst looks like the best
I should mind if they say it can't be true
I should smile, that's exactly what I do

The Old Man- Day 179

This part of the movie White Christmas always makes me cry, especially when they sing it in the end.

The Old Man by Irving Berlin
We'll follow the old man wherever he wants to go
Long as he wants to go opposite to the foe

We'll stay with the old man wherever he wants to stay
Long as he stays away from the battle's fray

Because we love him, we love him
Especially when he keeps us on the ball

And we'll tell the kiddies we answered duty's call
With the grandest son of a soldier of them all

Heat Wave- Day 178

I sure have fallen off the bandwagon over here! Yikes! I was determined to get this done within a year, but I'm not sure if that will happen now. We'll see, I suppose. I might have to stretch it out a bit longer.

Heat Wave by Irving Berlin
We're having a heat wave,
A tropical heat wave,
The temperature's rising,
It isn't surprising,
She certainly can can-can.

She started a heat wave
By letting her seat wave
In such a way that
The customers say that
She certainly can can-can.

Gee, her anatomy
Makes the mercury
Jump to ninety-three.

We're having a heat wave,
A tropical heat wave,
The way that she moves
That thermometer proves
That she certainly can can-can

This video doesn't have the words included, but I didn't feel like looking for one that did. At least you can hear the tune this way.
